If you want a garden destination wedding in Ireland this is the one for you.
Thatched house? tick. Extensive natural garden? tick. Own stream running through the property? Lush mature trees? tick. Fully private? tick. Beautiful bride and groom? tick. Great family and friends? tick. Great food, drinks and craic? double tick!
Yup, this wedding turned into one of my favorite ever. No big budget but plenty of creativity, proper focus, love and good friends.
Erin and Mark are a Canadian couple. Very sweet and genuine. She a nurse and he a police officer. All they wanted was an intimate and beautiful destination wedding in Ireland. We looked a several venues but I think Erin knew she was just going through the paces. She had seen Glengarriff Lodge in photos and was set on it from the first photo plus it was close to Kenmare which they already knew was a great place to stay. They rented the house and we set about planning! First things first was to book Lucy Nuzum to take the photos. This is the result!
We were lucky enough that the weather was fabulous so the ceremony was promptly set up in the garden outside near the stream.
The bridesmaids chose their own dresses and Erin and Mark included an Irish handfasting as part of their ceremony.
The gardens and grounds of the lodge are extensive {and stunning!} and Lucy and the couple made full use of them for amazing photos.
While Erin and Mark were off for their photos, the guests were entertained with traditional Irish music by Arundo and the funniest {tall} tales you have ever heard by Storyteller Ray both of whom are just brilliant to work with. There was impromptu dancing in the group and lots of laughs!
Guests helped themselves to an ample bar provided by the couple {though they were warned to take it easy! It was to be a long night!}
A little Irish vs Canadian whiskey.
The evening was planned for a tent in the garden also near the stream. We kept the decor very fun and festive and had an abundance of fresh Irish grown flowers by Hanako
Dinner was a relaxed but ample BBQ outdoors and enjoyed in the tent in the gardens in front of the house. Fish, chicken and steak with fresh salads hit the spot. The chefs and staff from The Martime Hotel in Bantry provided the catering and were wonderful
After dinner, the first dance was outside and played and sung by a best friend.
And with an iPod playlist they danced into the night! Because that is what you can do when you rent a full and secluded venue privately.
Other thanks go to Spiritual Ceremonies, Ruthanna makeup who was so lovely! and Aaron from Wayne Lloyd Salon, the Stuffed Olive did the yummy cake and again, to Lucy Nuzum Wedding Photography. Such a pleassure to work with and good fun on the day. Not to mention the photos! Fabulous! Thanks so much to all and congratulations again to Erin and Mark. And um, it’s nearly time to wish you a happy anniversary so that too! X
